Jennifer Markas, longtime executive director of Women’s Jewelry Association (WJA), has joined Jewelers Mutual as the new head of industry relations.
She will be responsible for “continuing to elevate the industry through meaningful partnerships with key industry association and industry foundation partners, as well as strategic leadership of the Jewelry Industry Council, and all industry events, including our signature event Conversations in Park City,” according to an official release from Jewelers Mutual Group, which is the owner and publisher of The Zing Report.
Jennifer brings a wealth of experience—spanning over seven years in the jewelry industry—to the position. Before heading up WJA, she was the global sustainability reporting and communications manager at Tiffany & Co., where she helped transform the brand’s traditional PDF report into a fully immersive online reporting experience. Markas was also formerly a vice president at Citibank, where she managed an $86 million annual budget for various CSR initiatives including sustainable cities and energy investments, financial inclusion and job pathways, and micro-entrepreneurship programs for low-income women.
During her time at WJA, she realized significant growth in membership and programming; launched the jewelry industry’s first diversity scholarships to provide education opportunities to underserved populations wishing to enter the jewelry industry; helped develop WJA Foundation’s Responsible Sourcing & Sustainability Education Fund (the first of its kind in the fine jewelry industry); and worked to advance the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals through various industry partnerships.
Her role at Jewelers Mutual Group begins today, Aug. 14.
