10 Favorite Jewelry Looks from the 2023 Met Gala

The 2023 Met Gala on Monday night lured loads of fashion and Hollywood A-listers, all of whom paid homage to fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld—this year’s person-theme of the gala, and the subject of the Costume Institute’s expansive new exhibition.

The late designer, who most notably led the Chanel and Fendi brands for decades, is one of the most important and controversial figures in modern fashion. He famously loved a black-and-white color palette and boasted a distinctive dark-dandy signature look that included fingerless black leather gloves, chunky black sunglasses, and a powdered white ponytail.

Celebs and their stylists riffed on all of the above when conceptualizing their Met Gala ensembles (and Doja Cat and Jared Leto dressed as Lagerfeld’s famous cat, Choupette). The night’s jewelry was plentiful and, naturally, punctuated by reams of pearls—a Lagerfeld and Coco Chanel trademark. The event also included a major gemstone reveal! See it below, along with all my other favorite jewelry looks from the 2023 Met Gala.

Jeremy Strong layered on the offbeat green accessories including a $1,400 green flower necklace from Homer, Frank Ocean’s jewelry brand (see closeup below), and a brand new Richard Mille RM 07-04 sports watch designed for women (courtesy @watchspotterkw), detailed above.

Priyanka Chopras Jonas wore a custom diamond and platinum Bulgari necklace featuring the 11.16 ct. Fancy Vivid Blue Bulgari Laguna Blu diamond, set to be sold at Sotheby’s in Geneva later this month (it’s forecast to fetch $25 million-plus).

In an epic red carpet turn, Dua Lipa debuted Tiffany & Co.’s new “Legendary” diamond, which was recently set in the label’s famed Lucida Star necklace. The diamond is over 100 carats, pays homage to the shape of the iconic yellow Tiffany diamond, and is a cushion modified brilliant cut featuring 82 facets – 24 more facets than is customary (courtesy @dualipa)

Keke Palmer accessorized her tweed-tastic gown with pink Swarovski crystal earrings.

Nicola Peltz Beckham in a black fabric chocker, and diamond necklaces (note the cross trend in action here, which we’ve written about).

Emily Blunt wore two pairs of Piaget diamond drop earrings—pretty! (@emilybluntupdate).

Top: A$AP Rocky (with Rihanna) wore Boucheron pieces: Ruban Diamants belt paved with diamonds on white gold; “Wladimir, the Cat” stud earrings, paved with diamonds and tsavorites; “Wladimir, the Cat” ring, paved with diamonds and tsavorites and set with tsavorites, black sapphires, quartz, and mother-of-pearl on white gold (courtesy @asaprocky)
