Space85—an online seller of artisan handcrafted jewelry from a small group of independent designers/makers in the greater New York City area—celebrated the sizzling splendor of mid-summer this week by curating a selection of rings from its designers inspired by the spirit of the season.
Summertime motifs such as seashells, mermaids, botanicals, and gemstones that evoke the colors and majesty of the sea abound. And as with all Space85 collections, the rings in the edit are entirely handcrafted.
The designers, who all run separate businesses in addition to being a part of Space85, met through the Fred de Vos Wax Workshops in downtown Manhattan. Meija Jewelry owner Elise Thompson, who founded Space85, says she saw firsthand what her talented classmates were creating and “wanted to highlight the handmade nature of their exquisite jewelry.” The designers launched the collective, which boasts an online store and adjacent social media channels, in 2019. Space85’s designers and brands are Alex Story, Casual Séance, i seira, Laura Caspi, Lori Auster, Mejia Jewelry, Maria Wagner, Patricia Kolodny, Ruth Edelson, Sandrine B. Jewelry, Shari K. Stadel Jewelry, and Susan Hamilton Meier.
“What’s better than wearing textured and themed jewelry during summer?” posits Thompson posits. “I love this group of rings…handcrafted by a small group of designers, that exhibit small details in a big way.”
