“Gilded Glamour” was the dress code of the 2022 Met Gala, which took place Monday night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Plenty of guests took “gilded” literally in their ensemble planning—shoutout to Ariana De Bose in her Rococo-esque swirly gold Moschino getup and Blake Lively in her voluminous gold-copper Versace ballgown—while others who walked the famous Met Gala pink carpet went their own way.
The evening’s jewelry parade was such a visual feast, to us it became its own buzzy superstar. Several current trends were in evidence: Pearls were everywhere—Bella Hadid wrapped them around her ankle to create a super-luxe anklet, Maye Musk wore long strands of Chopard pearls, and model Paloma Elsesser donned a multi-strand pearl collar fit for the opera in 1895. Bold diamond necklaces of every length were also popular. Naomi Campbell and Bridgerton star Simone Ashley wore diamond collars, while Claire Danes, Denee Benton, and Ashley Park opted for clavicle-length looks.
Seemingly every male attendee wore diamond jewelry, from Dwayne Wade and Paapa Essiedu in their glittering short diamond necklaces (and Lenny Kravitz in so many necklaces), to Jared Leto, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Bad Bunny, who wore bejeweled barrettes in their hair (see Abdul-Mateen’s custom Boucheron barrette below).
With so many memorable jewelry looks sauntering down the Met Ball’s main byway, it’s hard to play favorites. But here goes—my five favorite jewelry looks from the most fashionable red carpet event of the year. —Emili Vesilind
