Colored gem miner Gemfields has a history of illustrious designer partnerships with creators including Margery Hirschey and Sandy Leong.
But its latest partnership—with Mumbai-based atelier Shachee Fine Jewellery—feels especially lofty because the jeweler’s settings for the gemstones aren’t mere minimal pedestals, a style many designers default to when given the opportunity to work with such premium stones. The new jewels ranked as artistic masterworks even before they were set with the spectacular emeralds.
The Shachee Fine Jewellery x Gemfields collaboration comprises two pairs of earrings and a pendant, and all three pieces are the result of highly specialized craftwork, including woven gold lace and intricate micro-mosaics, a form of mosaic that uses unusually small mosaic pieces of glass or enamel. The designs affect tiny panels of embroidery and incorporate vintage Indian motifs such as garden flowers and elegant birds.
“I feel honored and privileged to be collaborating with Gemfields, which practices responsible mining and supports important causes like education for children and wildlife conservation,” says Shachee Shah, founder and designer of Shachee Fine Jewellery. “Their brand values resonate with my own work, inspirations and ethics, and our partnership feels like a marriage of beautiful green gems from Mother Earth and fine jewelry handcrafted with love.” —Emili Vesilind
